20 Jan Tara and Craig | Portland, OR Engagement Photographer
When Tara and Craig asked me to do their engagement shoot, I knew instantly that it would be an adventure. This couple is literally up for anything, and when I found myself asking Tara, in her pretty dress and heels, to crawl under a ragged chain link fence covered in “no trespassing” signs, she didn’t bat an eye. Emerging unscathed, we realized that she might be more comfortable exploring the abandoned building in her Toms, and after scouting amongst homeless sleeping areas, dirty clothes, and broken bottles, we found the perfect backdrop for our photoshoot.
Photographing them was such a wonderful experience to share, with Craig bringing Tara to full bell-shaking laughs, and having them dance and climb within the various rooms. Their love is so apparent, and playful and sweet, and I felt so privileged to even be there to capture it.
The shoot ended as we should have expected it would. A very, very nice police man asked us to leave, and watched as we scrambled under the chain link fence to the street. This only confirmed my expectations that climbing into abandoned buildings, and doing things you shouldn’t be doing, can be sooo much fun. Too much fun, in fact. Especially when you come armed with friends and a camera.
